Opening Up Chittagong Port Installs Container Terminal

Today Chittagong is one of the fastest-growing urban zones in the world and Bangladesh an emerging economy.Chittagong port in Bangladesh has installed a fully automated cargo handling system called container terminal management system (CTMS) and radiation detection system at the port.
The system will allow the port to manage all operational activities online which include loading and unloading of containers from ships shifting of container in the yard, stacking, tracking, delivery and gate control.

Chittagong port has added six straddle carriers, three container movers, 10 low-mast fork lifts and four rubber-tyred gantry cranes.After the installation system the container storage capacity of all jetties is expected to increase by 50%.
   Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) the new system, loaded containers would have to be handed over to the port authorities 24 hours in advance.Chittagong is the Northeast’s maritime gateway. With Nepal and Bhutan also likely to get access to Chittagong, Bangladesh’s second-largest city and its busiest seaport can be the core of the eastern subcontinent’s economic integration, and its global outreach.
